How It Works

Our IELTS Band Calculator uses the official scoring methodology to calculate your overall band score. Here's how it works and what you need to know about IELTS scoring.

IELTS Scoring System

IELTS uses a 9-band scoring system to measure your English language proficiency. Each of the four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) is scored individually, and then an overall band score is calculated.

How to Use Our Calculator

1Enter Your Scores: Input your individual band scores for each of the four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.
2Automatic Calculation: Our calculator instantly computes your overall band score using the official IELTS methodology.
3Get Your Result: View your overall band score and understand what it means for your goals.

Official Calculation Method

The overall band score is calculated by taking the average of your four individual scores and rounding to the nearest whole or half band. Here's how the rounding works:

Example Calculations

Example 1:
Listening: 6.5, Reading: 6.0, Writing: 6.0, Speaking: 7.0
Average: (6.5 + 6.0 + 6.0 + 7.0) ÷ 4 = 6.375
Overall Band Score: 6.5 (rounded up from 6.375)
Example 2:
Listening: 7.0, Reading: 6.5, Writing: 6.5, Speaking: 7.5
Average: (7.0 + 6.5 + 6.5 + 7.5) ÷ 4 = 6.875
Overall Band Score: 7.0 (rounded up from 6.875)
